Mets Reportedly Sign Jerry Blevins and Fernando Salas

Big moves here and now you can feel way more comfortable about the bullpen heading into the season. Of course, I'd love to have Sergio Romo too, but at least he didn't go to the Nationals.

Anybody But The Phillies

Really now, I thought after they put a through whipping on the Cubs and with Rafael Furcal back, the Dodgers would take out the Phillies in 5, at the most 6. But now with the Phils taking the first two games and nobody hitting besides Manny Ramirez, I'm starting to wonder if L.A. can even get a game. Bottom line, Joe Torre needs to wake his team up and fast, starting tomorrow against Jamie Moyer or else this series will be over before it started. And I'll have to look forward to a sad baseball season get even worse with the Phillies in the World Series.

Nothing Worse Than Being A Cubs Fan

Every time I think about how hard and torturous it is to be a Mets fan, I lose sight of a far worse fate: being a Cubs fan. I mean, can you imagine 100 years without a championship for your favorite team? And all the bad luck (from the infamous black cat game in '69 to losing to the Padres in the '84 NLCS after being up 2-0 to Steve Bartman) that this sad (but very popular) franchise has had to endure over the years? Now the Cubs are the favorites to represent the NL in the World Series this year and they're already down 1-0 to a Dodger team that's really good, esp. with Manny Ramirez on it. Oh well.

Manny Being Manny Moves To L.A.

Listen, I understand that he had become a total headache to the Red Sox higher-ups of late, but the bottom line is that Manny Ramirez was a huge reason why Boston won two world championships in the last four years. This is just a bad deal. Granted the Sox should still be able to win their division, but there's no way they defend their title without Manny Ramirez. As for the Dodgers, with Manny playing for a new contract, I'd put them right behind the Cubs as prohibitive favorites to win the NL pennant.

Mets Take 3 Outta 4 From Dodgers

OK, things are looking really good after the whole Willie controversy, but let's not get carried away here because we're still 3.5 games out of first place have some problems that need to be worked out if we're seriously going to contend this year. First, the Mets need to show some guts and send Aaron Heilman down to the minors if they're not going to trade him. Heilman has been horrible all year, gives up way too many HR's and keeps costing us games. Secondly, the Mets have to be really careful with Ryan Church whose suffered two concussions of late and still isn't 100%--give the hot-hitting Fernando Tatis more playing time till Church is 110%. Lastly, there's Pedro Martinez, who I don't care how good he says he's feeling, seems to always end up injured. We need Pedro to win for sure, but the Mets have to be extra careful how they deal with him for the rest of the year. Personally, I wouldn't let him go any more than 5 innings from now on till the playoffs. In the meantime, Wright and Reyes are hitting, Carlos Beltran is getting clutch hits. the bullpen (except Heilman) looks great and the bench is making a name for themselves. Good.
